That Will Do!

Choir School

Apologies for poor quality of this photo (which represents choir and clergy), there is a bright window on the right. In fact, it was impossible to get a decent photo at all owing to the windows and reflection on the subject but it serves as a reminder of the amazing mural work of the artist, Phoebe Anna Traquair.

She was invited to decorate the Choir School of St Mary's Episcopal cathedral; the work took 4 years and was completed  in 1892. The public do not normally have access to view this example of her work but, as part of the Festival, there are guided tours so Mr. Flum and I took the opportunity today.

We then visited the Mansfield Traquair Centre, also offering guided tours,  where Phoebe Traquair was commissioned by the Catholic Apostolic church to decorate their new building in the 1890's, quoted as 'the Sistine chapel of Edinburgh' due to the beauty and variety of the work.

There was so much to see I may well go back before the Festival ends but, sadly, the photos won't be any better.
