view over Oswestry from the old fort....

under grey skies...we went up to Oswestry old hill fort....the short way......

best viewed large

It was built by Iron Age people, nearly 3000 yrs ago and is one of the best preserved hill forts in Britain.

It was constructed & occupied between 800BC & 43AD and is a fine example of a multi vallate..[mutli rampart] hill fort.

Much of the info about the site comes from excavations conducted in 1939 by William Varley

WHile up there we also saw a rainstorm circle round Oswestry...which answered the question we often asked: why doesn't it rain here...but it does a few miles down the road.....
