It's Come To This

Saturday afternoon finds us at the grand opening of the new hardware store (free popcorn! win a barbecue! 50% off!). Here we are, two people of a certain age, grappling over the discounted watering cans and free fluorescent lightbulbs. In case you want to know, we bought a new outdoor thermometer and a set of screwdrivers with shiny points that haven't been dulled by age and misuse. The deal is, we're now supposed to throw out the old ones, but then we'll have to use the good ones to open paint cans and such, and we'll be back to square one. So I guess it will be like my mother's dishes: everyday ones and then the Sunday set that doesn't ever get used.
