Hats

My cousin Marie-Louise is a milliner. Both she and her home are like something from a bygone era. It was the first time I'd been there and it felt like being completely outside of time. Her hats have been worn by the great and the good and her work has featured on television. They were always gracing posh heads at Ascot at one time. But no one buys them any more, she said today. Cheap Chinese imports have killed her trade. The man who used to make her millinery blocks now works on the fish counter at Sainsburys.

You can see her work here
