Sgwarnog: In the Field

Golden Galloping Horses

The last full day of our visit down south saw us return to the Millets Maize Maze, near Abingdon, in Oxfordshire. This year the theme was around Alice in Wonderland, not that you could always tell that from paths cut through five foot high maize.

The 'big' maze proved a bit too much for 3yo, so we took the emergency exit while the rest of the family continued in the heat. Instead, we took a ride on Woodford's Golden Galloping Horses, which was much less sedate than I was expecting.

I don't know what this says about me, but throughout the ride the main thing I was thinking about was the finale of Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train, which takes place on a similar merry-go-round (watch the clip here if you don't recall it.)

Having experienced some of the more contemporary rides of Legoland earlier in our holiday, I think vintage fairground attractions like this take some beating.
