Groundhog Day

Yesterday we headed to Maria's parents cabin, up in the mountains a short drive from Asheville.
They still live back in Maria's hometown of Tallahassee, Florida, but have been making a twenty hour round trip over the past three years, patiently building a beautiful house in the hills.
The house has no electricity as yet (which will come via solar panels) but is looking very close to completion, and is a really nice place. There's a great wood stove for the winter, when they're blessed with mountain views, and a wonderful balcony area that places you right up in the trees come summer.

We pitched our tents further up the hill and enjoyed a huge fire and some of Maria's Father's delicious home made blueberry wine.
I chose the shot above of the area where we camped, because I want to make sure I get a record of Spiderlily, Ethan & Maria's wonderful dog who we've both fallen in love with a bit.

Ethan shot and killed a groundhog today that has been terrorising the vegetable plot they made behind their house. When he discovered it chomping merrily on a prized butternut squash, enough was enough.
We ate it in a stew this evening which as you might expect was a first for me - it was a delicious meal I must admit.
