Sgwarnog: In the Field

Viewing History

It was 7yo's birthday today, and his outing was to an archaeology workshop at Bolling Hall, one of the oldest buildings in Bradford, now operated by the Council as a museum, with a focus on Tudor and Civil War periods.

It was our first visit, and means that after six years in the district we've finally gone to all seven of the museums and galleries that together are Bradford Museums. Bolling is tucked away in the middle of more modern housing, but is well worth hunting out - it's full of interesting artefacts and has a lot to say about the history of the city. The inhabitants of the house seemed to always pick the losing side though, being Lancastrians during the Wars of the Roses, and Royalists during the Civil War. There's a nice site about Bradford's role in the Civil War here.
