The Memory Keeper

Chicago it is...

~backblip~

Let me see, so much of me wishes I didn't have to backblip for two weeks, however I stupidly brought the wrong usb adaptor travelling with me. Which would have been great if I was using my phone to take photos. Naturally this wasn't the case. Anyway, this means that my write-ups will never be all that great as I have a memory that would make a sieve feel proud of it's retention qualities.

Anyway, so our flight from London > Chicago went swimmingly... That is until we landed. We were held up in the air for around 15 minutes due to heavy rainfall in Chicago, which meant that when we finally arrived at the airport/ customs we clashed perfectly with an incoming planeful of tourists from Japan. Cue a 2 hour wait at customs when all they needed to ask was whether or not we were smuggling bananas into their beautiful country. (Obviously customs are far more important than that but it's hard to see the importance when you are made to stand and wait as your connecting flight takes off without you.)

After literally sprinting to the correct terminal - via a silly old tram that made us even later - we found a grumpy fat american who confirmed to us that we had missed our connection to Miami. He (stupidly) hastened to add that, had we not "wasted 2 hours" in the airport, we could have made our flight in plenty time. At this idiotic statement my sister and I exploded and near on frightened the man to death, prompting him to book us on to the soonest possible flight to Miami (which also meant finding an addition connection from there to Lima). Annoyingly this wasn't to be until the next day, so he did his best to wriggle his way into our good books by booking us into a Holiday Inn on "distressed traveler" rates. Distressed would have been a major understatement, however this was kind of him. Hopefully we didn't terrify him toooo much, as he also threw in around $70 worth of meal tickets for the hotel bar!

At the end of the day, the delay in Chicago didn't seem all that bad. We took a train into Chicago city center and had a wander around Millenium Park. Our impromptu trip had landed us in Chicago at just the right time to clash with the annual Lollapalooza festival... Meaning that the place was twice as busy as normal! We didn't mind at all by this point, as we had been entranced by the "Cloud Gate" sculpture at the centre of the park. Coincidentally we had seen a film featuring this sculpture (Source Code) only several hours earlier on our flight from London! I love coincidences :)

It would probably be a good time to mention the actual photo! Although it's not an award-winning photograph, I liked the rather obvious irony of the little boy slipping and falling on the wet concrete. He was fine, by the way!
