The Cocoanut, Mill St, Kingston upon Thames

Had a great boys night out at this tucked-away pub in Kingston, where they've just added Thai food to the menu. The food was fantastic and the price very competitive - worth a try if you're after a meal in Kingston. As for the pub, the interior looks pretty much unchanged since it was built in the 1930s.

And the pub name? The mill in Mill Street used to be one processing coconut fibres to make matting and other products (it's long gone of course) so this used to be one of the prime British consumers of coconuts. There is a local legend that the coconut shy was invented at a fair on nearby Fairfield when the mill owners provided coconuts as prizes for the Aunt Sally stall. I'd like to think it is true.
