Finnish red

The predominant finish to rural buildings in Finland is this rough timber boarding, which is very tactile. And the predominant colour is this gorgeous red.

This was taken on the island of Hogsara, which we sailed to on our hosts' beautiful 35ft yacht, along with their grandchildren. Having only sailed dinghies and kayaks before, this was a new experience for me and it was one of the best days I have ever had. No open water for us, but sailing among the islands of the SW archipelago in perfect weather.

We tied up at the jetty, had a delicious lunch in the sun at a farmhouse restaurant, visited the local museum and saw lots of these timber buildings.

Just a perfect day.....
