Great Whernside

Sitting at a desk at work and this is where i wish i was......

OK so im cheating a little. This was actually taken on Saturday when i walked up Great Whernside from Kettllewell, North Yorkshire. It was such a lovely day i wanted to publish the photo from the top. Although named Great Whenside it is fact over 30 metres lower than Whernside. Im really not sure why it is named 'Great' but arguably it has views that are just as fantastic as the ones from Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-Y-ghent. In the distance you can see Buckden Pike where in the second world war a German plane came down in the depths of winter. The only surviver of the crash managed to scrabble down the fell by following a foxes paw prints left in the snow! He ended up at the pub in the valley, i bet he needed a few drinks after that ordeal.

The climb itsself i took from Kettlewell via Hagdike (accommodation for the adventurous). The climb only takes an hour and this was a shorter walk for me than normal. I didnt have the whole day free but wanted a climb so decided this was a good option. Although it was a sunny bank holiday Satruday i didnt see a single sole the whole way and I even had the summit all to myself.

A recommended walk and at 6 miles managable for most people. To extend it set off from Buckden and do Bucken Pike then round up Great Whernside and then back down to the valley floor finishing with a nice flat walk along the river to finish

In other news my Paypal account has been hacked and £200 stolen from my account. I sure fire way to get the stress levels up.........Still great excuse to go for another relaxing walk with more Blipfoto oppotunities!
