Well, we feared the worst for Rani, but it seems she will be ok.

Her blood tests show very little protein in her blood and a high white cell count. She has lost a lot of weight and has a problem with digestion and absorption of nutrients, and it's not clear why.

The lump in her abdomen is probably not cancer according to the scans, and the vet won't undertake surgery except as a last resort, though it is still a mystery at this stage.

We bought her home tonight along with an array of medicines and pills and probiotics and special food and the vet will monitor her progress once a week.

So. not out of the woods yet but going in the right direction.

What a palaver (and I need to dig out the cat insurance documents)!
