A place in the rain

Southsea Kite Festival 2011

It's August Bank Holiday, so it must be Southsea Kite Festival. For three days, the skies of Southsea Common are full of strange beasts: chameleons, Superman, bats, and wonderous colourful creatures of no name. And kiters of great skill demonstrate their twists inches from the ground. This photo, however, celebrates something more prosaic. We've been coming to the Festival for six years, the last three with tiny, beginner kites (I saw a toddler fly one today). This year, they finally went airbourne, thanks to Dale's perserverence. And in the photo, one of ours seems to hover above the stately black beauty without effort. There are several illusions here, but I'm not complaining...
