Buddhe Eden

A few miles south of where we were staying this sculpture park was set up in the grounds of a wine quinta in 2001 in response to the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan by the Taliban government.

We thought it would be fun to visit and it exceeded our expectations. It is huge and amazing, with hundreds of statues including an army of terracotta warriors. Some of the statuary is a bit tacky but most of it is good. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and there were thousands of local people there, enjoying themselves. Entrance is free, which always helps.
