Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2011 Friday -- Powerful Waves

At noon today,  21 of George's friends gathered at Montana de Oro State Park, just a few miles south of Morro Bay and Cayucos to pour George's ashes into the ocean (see yesterday's blip).

First we all gathered around several picnic tables and enjoyed a wonderful lunch together. As we finished eating we gathered in close to tell fun memories about Goerge, laughed some and shed a few tears. Then we all walked down the beach path to the water's edge and Cyndi , the dear friend who took care of George for the past couple years of his life, stepped  onto a couple of big rocks that protruded out into the water and there at about 2:00 p.m. she opened the bag of ashes and poured into the surf. Emotional? You bet!

Then we all walked, some single file and some holding hands, back up the bluff  to the parking lot, hugged, said our goodbyes, and everyone headed off into the unknown while being thankful for our past and that our paths had aligned with George's. Some of us would make the 4-hour drive back to Corona and some of us planned to stay here on the Central Coast for the holiday weekend.

The two of us are staying for another day, so we drove north to Cayucos, found a seat in an upstairs bar & grill that looked out at the pier and the angry ocean, enjoyed a beverage, and just shared thoughts -- just Mr. Fun & Rosie stirring our thoughts, salting our emotions, and reminding each other that life is worth living!

The power of the ocean and its emotion certainly mirrored the feelings we were feeling today. I'm glad the waves were fierce!

James Taylor has a line in one of his songs, something like "Build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own." The memories of George are  in our minds and certainly in our hearts. We'll miss him for the rest of our lives; forever we'll be grateful for his friendship. We look forward to eternity with him.

Thanks for reading this far.
Good night from the Central Coast of California.
