Joe

Joe fenced in the UK School Games today. Here he is in the quarter final and leading against Stephen Pinkerton. He built up a quick 5-1 lead but Stephen gradually clawed back and it was neck and neck for most of the match. With 15 seconds to go it was 12-12 and Joe got a deep cut on his hand and had to receive treatment from the medic. There were no further hits in the last 15 seconds, and Joe was given priority for a sudden death minute of extra time. Unfortunately the next hit and the match went to Stephen.

It was the middle of three days fencing in the games, which involves Joe staying just 5 minutes walk from home in the student halls aka athlete village and being fed, clothed, and ferried each day to the EIS, and the most professional fencing set up I have ever seen, all courtesy of Sainsbury's and all you kind lottery ticket buyers!

This morning I went with Cari to orienteering in Gleadless valley, which was quite tough and hilly and an excellent area and map. It's a pretty rough area, but being a Saturday morning it was reassuringly quiet.

Another 10k or so under my belt in my training for the Nine Edges, now just 3 weeks away :O
