St Hild of Whitby

We spent the weekend at St Hilda's Priory at Whitby, where we, and others of the Northumbria Community, together with friends from the Anabaptist Network met with our 'hosts', the Sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete, in their beautiful Priory. From the ground you can see the ruins of Whitby Abbey. Hilda of Whitby or Hild of Whitby (c. 614?680) was a Christian saint and the founding abbess of the monastery at Whitby, which was chosen as the venue for the Synod of Whitby. An important figure in the conversion of England to Christianity, she was abbess at several monasteries and recognized for the wisdom that drew kings to her for advice. We had a lively, inspiring and challenging weekend looking at "Stories from the Future". Great time.
