Shorebird season

We're approaching the time of year when shorebirds, who spend summer nesting in Canada, arrive to forage on Northern California's bayshores, wetlands and beaches. These willets at Crown Beach in Alameda, Ca. are either early arrivals or part of a permanant population. My guess is early arrivals, but who knows? Some birds, especially young ones do find ways to survive without migrating.
