Snapshots of reality

This morning we left the house at 6.10am to set off for Wales for our half day rally driving course. We went in Chris's Punto, which to say the least has seen better days. About half way there we felt something and the engine cut out...so we coasted a mile to a layby on the dual carriageway and found that the auxiliary belt was pretty much destroyed! We managed to carry on (not using anything electrical in the car) and arrived on time. We were at the circuit used for testing by world champion rally drivers, and set off in a rear wheel drive Subaru.

We did 3 laps each in sequence until our timed ones - I came joint last with a time of 1:59 for two laps, and I stalled after the hairpin so I reckon I should have been up there with the best! The day was brilliant fun, lots of spins and mud and I even ended up being pushed out of a ditch at one point. All courtesy of Jaguar Land Rover!

On the way home we stopped at a dubious pub for lunch, but it turned out to have delicious and reasonable food and a nice ale. Bump start for Chris's car and a innovative cable tie aux belt, and we ended up back at home without any more problems. Hurrah!
