Italian Garden

This afternoon we went off to the Italian Garden in Glasgow. Recently opened the garden is a memorial to all the Italian POW's interned at the beginning of the WW2 that sadly lost their lives on the ship, Arandora Star, on it's way to Canada in 1940.

The ship was torpedoed just off Ireland by a German U-boat.

The names of the victims are engraved on 3 granite blocks round the edge of the garden. This is a picture of Holli whose middle names are Simone Filippi. If you look to her right you can see her Great Grandfather Simone Filippi and her Great Uncle Mario Filippi named. Her grandfather Dante was interned on the Isle of Man, whist his father and brother named, here died on the ship.

A very emotional visit, and on the day of the 10th anniversary 9/11 made especially so.
