There is something about a roast dinner that is so British. The tradition of it, the coming together of family, the settling down and spending time.

The noise and the clamour of passing vegetables and gravy, and catching up with everyone's news.

The vague sadness of missing those who aren't there to share with you, those that you have shared a meal with who are no longer here.

And then there is the washing up.
