...casualty of the storm

Yesterday's really high gales have subsided now but on my daily walk around the village I noticed this casualty - a pretty big willow that had been felled. It seems unbelievable that strong winds can do that but maybe it was brittle because we had a very dry spring or perhaps it was diseased, I don't know. There didn't seem to be any other damage in the village, thank goodness and my fence seems as solid as a rock now...
According to the Daily Telegraph, a bus driver was killed when a tree fell on his bus in County Durham and huge waves were reported on many parts of the coast. The strongest wind recorded was 82mph in North Wales.

For the record: 18C, sunny periods, gusts of 40mph still being recorded although the wind had subsided by the end of the day.
