Strictly for the birds

After the high winds there were hundreds of these all over the grass.

Not sure what the fruit is - it looks like a tiny apple; but if it is, I'm not sure it'd be great eating. Or as George put it the other day when we were looking at them, "best leave them for the birds, eh."
