A Dog's Dinner

A Night at the Flicks

We've just got in from a lovely evening out-nothing special just a night at the pictures and a meal - we even had a glass of wine.

The film was rather special, Days of Heaven which is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful photographed films ever made. Directed by Terrence Malick ,every scene was shot at the golden hour, either just after daybreak or just after sunset. The whole film is suffused with beautiful light along wide shots of the wheatfields of the Texas Panhadle - actually Alberta a believe.

Malick pares everything away that's not needed, an almost stark script, a small central ensemble of lead actors and little artificial light set against a huge landscape, the result is film that feels epic.

Unfortunately ,Richard Gere is one of the leads, never a good choice in my opinion, he was a very young actor here and he does a lot of 'acting.

That aside, a film that anyone interested in the craft of photography or film should see and fall in love with.

The meal wasn't bad either.
