From the inscription:

Lord Ninian Edward Crichton Stuart, member of Parliament for Cardiff, Cowbridge and Llantrisant.  Lieut-Colonel 6th Batt Welsh Reg Territorial. Born 15th May 1883.  Fell in France at the Battle of Loos, fighting bravely for his country, 2nd October 1915
