A Grand Day Out!

Today has been a grand day!

This morning I made my way to the Grand Theatre, Swansea to join the Grand Theatre Club's annual tour around the theatre to see the workings of a theatre. The tour was lead by the Joint Managers of the theatre, and they were a good comedy double act but also very knowledgeable of the history of the theatre and quite clearly know what goes on behind the scenes. It was a great way to spend a couple of hours; we had a look backstage, saw the dressing rooms and heard the history of the place. The Grand is owned by the local authority, the City and County of Swansea, and obviously faces difficult times with cutbacks etc, so the support of the Theatre Club is very important to the theatre.

The Swansea Grand Theatre is a beautiful old theatre, it's full of history, after all it was built in 1897, the architecture is magnificent and the atmosphere it creates is superb, which the actors admit themselves is one of the attractions of the theatre. The theatre has even got its own ghost, Jenny, who it is said haunts the Grand Circle on the left hand side as you look at the stage. Apparently Jenny was on the Titanic when it sunk, but had worked at the theatre and it was a place where she really felt happy and hence why she haunts the place.

It's vital that we keep theatres like this alive, there is nothing like live theatre! So do me a favour take a look at their winter brochure, I'm sure you'll find something there to interest you, even if it's just taking the kids to the Pantomime, and book your tickets now. The Swansea Grand Theatre needs you!

Oh yeah and while you're at join the Grand Theatre Club, for a small membership fee of £8 you're supporting the theatre and joining a great club who are very welcoming and provide great company. I've joined!

One of the highlights this morning was meeting up with my Twitter friends, StrictlyDavina, who also has a blip journal, and BotleyLady. Two lovely ladies, who I'm glad I've been able to meet up with through the power of the internet and now call friends.

Highlights of the rest of the day, Swansea winning their first match in the Premiership, Neath beating Newport 36-16 and Neath F.C. winning 4-0 against Newtown. All I need now is a Wigan Warriors win against St.Helens and it really will have been a grand day!
