Black Hills Mix

We were up and at 'em at 8:15 a.m, and headed to
Mt. Rushmore. A few facts about the mountain.

To give you an idea about the size...the faces are
60 feet high.

If you look at Washingtons bust...you can see that
he has some lapels below his head. The whole project was to have all 4
presidents down to their waists, but they started having problems with the rock,
and settled for what it is today.

Most people don't know it...but if you could get
around to the other side...the presidents backsides are carved, also. In an
effort to save some money...they didn't put clothes on them...so there are 4
bare-bottomed presidents. At least that's how the T-shirt and the post-card
shows it.

The biggest plus about the monument? A fairly new
parking structure, beautifully manicured grounds, and the awesome heads. The
minuses? 11 dollars to park. Are you kidding me? They counter with the fact that
the pass is good for one year. I'm 1230 miles away. How many times do they think
I'm going to come back in a year?

(A deep breath after that tirade.) We took the
presidential trail underneath the faces. My buddy Al used to call it the
Nosehair Trail. The mountain goat and her 2 babies were also using the trail. It
was exciting to see them so close. Mom was heavily tagged around her neck. The
trail was many steps down, and many steps up. Tiring, but worth it.
We left Rushmore, and went to Custer S.P., and saw a huge herd of buffalo. 250-300 strong. We also saw wild burros and prairie dogs.
