Tramspotting :: deja vu

Rip It Up And Start Again... Princes Street, Edinburgh, September 2011... now closed to all traffic again, this time until Summer 2012, as the contractors rip up the road around the (unused) Tramlines. Again. Traffic is diverted onto George Street, causing massive tailbacks and congestion, and yet more disruption to local businesses and residents.

Oh dear, it seems we've been here before. The tram saga has superceded all other previous Edinburgh embarrassments (we've had a few... unfinished National monuments, over-priced Parliament buildings...) and has now firmly replaced the painting of the Forth Road Bridge as an everyday modern Scottish allegory for a job that will never be finished.

Trying to navigate round the city centre was bad... but it just got a whole lot worse. Boy, I'm glad I'm a cyclist.... and a Hibs fan (that's another story... but I just had to mention it today)
