American Sticky Rice

I brought a sticky rice maker basket back from Thailand. My Thai friends were concerned that I wouldn't have a pot that would work for cooking it. My pot here doesn't look exactly the same, the ones in they use in Thailand look almost like a large metal vase, with space for water in the bottom and the top fluting out to hold the basket. This works though.

The sticky rice is soaked for a few hours and then the water is drained and it's cooked in the basket over boiling water. You keep a lid over the rice and after about 20 minutes, the rice will be done. You can tell it's done when you toss the basket up and bring it down quickly the rice sticks together in a ball and jumps up, becoming rounder and rounder as it jumps and tosses in the basket. Understand? Sorry, it's kind of hard to explain. Tastes good though. :)
