We're sitting outside the National Museum of Scotland because the Talbot-Rice Gallery and the Old College on South Bridge are both closed, despite supposedly being accessible to the public for Doors Open Day.

But we did get to visit Edinburgh Chess Club on Alva Street, which has been there since 1922 - the club was established in 1822 and is probably the second oldest in the world. Charming people!
