Houghton Mill

First day of a Drawing and Watercolour course in St Ives, Cambs, which is 26 miles away from where I live. I just liked the artist/tutor's work so figured I could learn a lot from him so the journey should be worth it.

It's been an absolutely beautiful day as we begin an Indian Summer. According to the BBC weather report we are due to have wall to wall sun for the next few days with temperatures up to 27C.

On the journey back I called in on Houghton Mill, a National Trust property, and according to their notes, this is the only working watermill left on the Great Ouse river. In the Middle Ages, the mill and the village, which is very attractive, were owned by the great Benedictine Abbey of Ramsey, 10 miles from Houghton.

Viewed large, you can just about see the fish - it was teeming with them.

For the record: 22C, sunny and warm, and more to come...
