The Genus Paronychia is found throughout the northern hemisphere with high concentrations in mountainous areas and steppes. Colorado has 3 spceis, this is Paronychia sessiliflora, it turns reddish in autumn and can splash rocky slopes of the high semi-arid valleys with red in autumn. This photo was taken north of Walden, in Jackson county, CO

Why this plant is not more widley cultivated in rock gardens is a mystery, it is not hard to grow, but the flowers are even less showy then the one linked below, however foilage and form in the end "pay the rent" more than colorful flowers see another Paronychia here. This one from August was collected in Armenia by a friend
