horns of wilmington's cow

With no real plans for the day Mel had what amounts to a lie-in when we're on holiday, and I sat up reading the guidebooks for ideas and watching England play Romania in the world cup. In the end we plumped for another day on the bikes, heading to Pontivy once more to head in the opposite direction to Thursday on the Nantes-Brest canal - making for the 1930s Guerlédan dam some 20km or so north.

Perhaps not as consistently picturesque as the last run to Rohan; and the path was, shall we say, 'rough'. I was somewhat pleased I'd decided to stick the cyclocross tyres on the bike before we came over. But it was still a nice ride, out in the sun, and while there wasn't the Kingfisher bounty of Thursday, we finally had a couple fly past relatively closely while we were sat having a bite to eat and I had the camera ready. Not perfect. It doesn't stand up to enlargification, but nice to get (the distant view was perhaps better, but I liked the look of determination on the face here). Kingfishers weren't actually on my list of birds to see coming here - funny how things work out.
