Japanese Adventure

Spit and Polish

This is the Yamaguchi-go steam excursion that runs from Yamaguchi-City to Tsuwano every weekend. Unlike the UK, the steam engines are owned by the railway company. This means that the cost is very cheap, it cost us and extra Yen 510 which is around and extra 4 pounds.

This is the driver polishing all the brass before the loco left for the return trip.

The train is part of the timetable and stops on route to pick up and drop off passengers. Like the UK whenever a steam train runs on the mainline, there are people everywhere waving and taking photos.

We travel on the trip back and it was wonderful. Japanese trains have windows at every seat that opens from the top and bottom. So you can open the bottom window and hear the engines. No Eff and Safety police here, so no problem sticking your head out or your camera. Mind you it is single track, so the only thing you would hit is a branch.

Back home now and still having bits of soot falling out my hair
