Travels with a Ginger Dad

Turf City

These are the old Bukit Timah Racecourse Grandstands; The Singapore Turf Club moved on to a new location (at Kranji) in 1999.

Since then the Grandstand was provided home to various autoshops, eateries, supermarkets and other retail outlets. The old track has left space for numerous sports facilites; rugby pitches, tennis courts, baseball diamonds; most available by the hour.

I was here to take E to a 7th birthday party on one of the five-a-side football pitches, which she certainly enjoyed, even if she never kicked a ball (or tried). I took a walk round to see if I could pick up any of the atmosphere from previous decades, when the ground would have shook with the thunder of hooves and the stands would have been full with the great and the good. It proved difficult.

I read in the paper last month that the whole thing is being returned to the state for redevelopment next February.

Today's backblip is some muddy turtles.
