A modern day Chantry....

Today I was at the Robin Chapel - a remarkable place where every Sunday a chaplain, a preacher, two vergers, a director of music, a sub organist, and a choir of 22 paid singers gather and conduct a service. There is next to no congregation. The music is sublime.

When Robin Tudsbery was killed in the final hours of the Second World War, his parents set about creating a shrine to their only child.

The 25-year-old lieutenant in the Royal Horse Guards was blown up by a mine as the Allies completed their final push through Germany. He was buried in Germany where he was killed, but this is the shrine to his life.

By 1945, with the end of the war in sight, the wealthy parents were already planning a housing complex for some of Scotland's most severely disabled soldiers. After the death of Robin, they devoted the rest of their lives to the project and built the chapel in the grounds to his memory. They now lie buried in the vault beneath the floor.

Behind the font hangs this portrait of Robin and his golden retriever.
