They did return

The next day they completed the job but since then no sign of any further damage. In total 3 young trees, two of which were wild & the third was "free" from the forest.
I think as they couldn't get the trees in to the stream they have moved on to better "pastures". Perhaps they are the newest offspring from a family about 1km downstream from us and looking to set up a new home.
