Sahara Beach

In the background you can possibly just see Flash, still walking. This was a disadvantage of the sandy beaches for those who like to swim in cool water. As on several beaches around Lopar, you need to wade several hundred meters before you can swim.
It's very helpful to have a boat in Croatia to get to many of the beaches. Our 1988 inflatable with 1979 10hp Chrysler outboard is still doing it's service well. Using the GPS on mobile, measured 29.7 km/h. Also have a very solid sailing kit & even managed to capsize once but not through wind. Tried saiing on 4 or 5 days but throughout the holiday, hardly had any wind at all.
The flags are somewhat OTT. There are so many laws and fees nowadays to put even such a small boat in the water. Need a boat's driving licence above 5hp, insurance (OK), a vignette (50 Euros), fire extinguisher, life jackets, 1st aid kit, rescue rockets & carry a list of all persons on board which the harbour master issues, having seen all the passports. While I was filling out the paperwork got in to conversation with the harbourmaster over flags - boat bought in UK, registered in Germany, UK owner, Bavarian captain (B-in-L has licence) sailing in Croatian waters - what goes where. Ended up putting the Red Ensign (should have been German) & Croatian flags when under motor & then added the Bavarian & German flags under sail. Naturally the flags were as large as I could get. On the masthead I also had a small Union Jack as wind telltale!
