Kyoto

Kyoto may just be the most beautiful city on earth. It is incredible, everything I imagined traditional Japan to be.

We were lucky enough to meet an Aussie guy on the train from Osaka who had lived in Japan a couple of years. With a sketched maps highlighting the best of Kyoto and Brisbane in our hands we headed out to explore the city.

This photo is from Kiyomizu Temple, one of seventeen World Heritage Sites in Kyoto. Walking around it and watching the sunset overlooking the valley and the city below was fantastic.

We walked from the temple to the Gion district in the early evening. After dinner at a noodle bar we found Gion Square famous for Geisha. We had been told we would be lucky if we spotted a Geisha dashing from a taxi to a tea house appointment around 7-8pm. In fact we saw two Maiko (apprentice Geisha) dressed in their full finery. Our camera battery ran out at the temple so there are no photos to show!
