Maize harvest

The farm is going crazy with work trying to get it done before the winter rains. On returning home from the WEA lecture there was a lot of noise coming from the farmyard. The maize harvest had begun! T had received a phone call last night saying the usual contractor who was coming with his maize harvester had broken down and was unable to do the job. After a panic we fortunately found someone else who came this afternoon. Meanwhile T and N are both working with tractors in the fields before and after the seed contractor has drilled the corn, and the maize trailers are coming and going to the silage pit as if there is no tomorrow. They will work on into the night if necessary. Meanwhile Tess our JR terrier is lying quietly in the kitchen, she's had enough of being a passenger today!

This blip shows the maize, including the cobs, all shredded, dumped by the trailer and being pushed by the tractor into the pit. It makes very nourishing winter feed for the cattle.
