Cultured

After the success of yesterday (thanks everyone for your kind comments!), I'm all out of inspiration so have some microbiology.

This is a mixed culture from someone's nose. The white and grey bods are skin organisms, but the larger goldeny ones are Staph. aureus. I won't know until tomorrow if they're MRSA or not.

Staph. aureus causes:
Abscesses of various organs
Carbuncles
Boils
Cellulitis
Impetigo
Mastitis
Wound infections
Scalded Skin Syndrome
Toxic Shock Syndrome
Septicaemia
Pericarditis
Osteomyelitis
Joint infections
Food poisoning
Eye infections

...but also lives normally in a lot of people's noses. We're really only interested if they're getting recurrent boils or whathaveyou, or they're off for an op...
