Jama Mosque, Delhi

After a fitful night's sleep on the plane, we came out of Delhi airport and the familiar smell of the moist heat, which lingers at the back of your memory from previous trips, re-surfaced to greet us.
Having assembled with the rest of the party, we had just enough time to freshen up and grab some lunch at the hotel before we were off for our tour of Delhi, through the wide avenues of New Delhi lined with embassies and consulates half-hidden behind trees and security gates, to the chaos of the old town and our first stop at the Jama Mosque the largest in India, apparently. The circling Red Kites were to become a familiar sight wherever we went in the North

A glimpse of the Red Fort, a visit to the house where Gandhi was assassinated and then to India Gate, where locals were playing cricket and swimming in the ornamental lakes and fountains.
