The second half of life..

Pass of the match!

After postponing the event from Wednesday the weather played ball today allowing us to run our Year 10 Sports Education tournament - and a great day it was too :)

We've run this event for many, many years now. Basically, students get to choose one of 3 sports then spend about 5 weeks using each PE lesson as a 'training session'. The focus is on things like student leadership, active involvement, fair play and caring for others. Teachers take a step backwards and students run most if not all of the sessions.

Our Special Education department enters teams into the event too and it is always a real heart-warmer to see these guys getting fully involved and pitting their skills against others.

C's Touch team was a case in point - the team numbers were bolstered by members of Special Ed staff plus one or two of our 1st XV who help out in Special Ed.

This pass that C made was, for me, the play of the day. He made a perfect pass out to R on the wing who, as a 1st XV member was always going to be able to out-pace and out-step the year 10 opposition. As he burned down the wing though, he turned to look inside to make a pass back to C so that C could score the try. C however was already cheering loudly and heading back to the middle for the restart leaving R to score the try. The crowd cheered and clapped and smiled their way back to the restart and then on to the end of the game.

But despite losing the match you wouldn't have found a happier team :)

And that, for me, is what it's all about. Not being the best, just doing their best.
