The Blue Raddle: Pub sign #2

As far as I know there is only one pub in the country (if not the whole universe) called the Blue Raddle. It's in Dorchester and judging by the number of reviews thrown up by Google it is highly regarded.

I thought a blue raddle might be a breed of sheep but I've discovered it's to do with dyeing. That presumably explains why the sheep on the sign have blue crosses on their backs.

Raddle - coloured pigment used to mark sheep for various reasons, such as to show ownership, or to show which lambs belong to which ewe. May be strapped to the chest of a ram, to mark the backs of ewes he mates (different rams may be given different colours). Also a verb ("that ewe's been raddled").
