The Colliers' Way

We went to Kilmersdon today - the home of Jack and Jill! This isn't the village's only literary connection though - the children's author Steve Voake was head teacher of Kilmersdon Primary School for eight years.

We decided to walk along another section of the Colliers' Way. The Kilmersdon area has the remains of many disused coal mines which were part of the Somerset coalfield. For this reason, National Cycle Route 24 is known as the Colliers' Way. This section was particularly good as the disused railway line was very much in evidence.

We had planned to walk to Radstock but the signs weren't very helpful and we ended up going about 2 miles in the wrong direction before we realised what we'd done!
