A Dog's Dinner

By G

First of the year.

How about this! It's our first tomato of the season and it's weeks ahead of last year. Normally we wouldn't be expecting to see any tomatoes until mid June so things are looking good for a bumper year.

Again it's been a scorcher of a day here with wall to wall sunshine and blue skies. It has to be the best Spring we've had for years with no real rain for about a month. ( *note to self I must check back and see if that's true)

Today was a major gardening day both in the greenhouse and the raised beds. We've transplanted salad crops, the chillies and the basil. Set up the courgette bed and make some serious inroads into rabbit protection.

This year we seemed to have got the timing a bit better. The last jar of cucumber relish was opened on Friday, we've just used the last of the pesto frozen from last year and we've only two jars of chilli sauce left, so I recon that we can start of the home canning at the end of next month........and we can eat our first cucumber for six months.

Now that is worth waiting for.
