Whitby Abbey

On Sunday the sun had disappeared but this meant that the weather was appropriately gloomy for a visit to Whitby Abbey. The Abbey was founded in 657 but these ruins belong to the church of the Benedictine abbey refounded on its site by the Normans and begun in about 1220. The entrance fee includes an audio guide which was most informative, even if you end up touring the Abbey back to front like I did!
