Bluebirds in the Afternoon

We've been enjoying unseasonably warm (but pleasant) weather here for the past week. With temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year, it almost feels like it's summer again, but this time without the humidity (thank goodness). Late this afternoon I took Poppy over to Bryan Park. The park was bustling with activity, people sitting under trees or playing Frisbee, walking their dogs, strolling with their baby carriages, etc. Of course Poppy wanted to follow the squirrels from tree to tree which I allowed her to do for a while so she could engage in her doggy instincts.

We ended up sitting on the lawn in the shade of a Maple tree for quite some time. Poppy seemed so happy to be outside and to watch all of the activity happening in the park. About 20 feet away from us, a group of 5 or 6 bluebirds was hunting on the ground among some fallen pine needles. I had my camera on full zoom and held my camera out at arms length to get this shot. The little birds let me approach fairly close. Poppy was so focused on a squirrel that she didn't even seem to notice the birds.
