You know what, Christopher Columbus?

Screw you and the tall ships you sailed in on.

Most years I can just ignore the ridiculous celebration of your famed discovery of the Bahamas, which you thought was India, doh, that paved the way for disease, greed and cruelty that wiped out entire populations of indigenous peoples across the Americas.

When this public 'holiday' impacts me personally like the post office being closed on a day that I really needed it to be open, it ticks me off even more.

It probably isn't your fault as much Christopher, as it is the fault of the institutions that still think what you did is worth celebrating just an excuse for a day off.

You were just pleasing the greedy monarchs who payed for your trip and promised you wealth beyond your wildest dreams.
