wander, stumble, wonder

Stonehenge

What a thrilling day. We arose, found breakfast, and spent the morning walking around Bath on a free walking tour - excellent value, very enthusiastic tour guide, and generally all round very interesting. I love walking tours, especially free ones, they make it so easy to get a feel for a city, to work out what to see and do, and where it all is. We saw the Royal Crescent and the Circus, through some Jane Austen landmarks, past the Baths, and heard fascinating stories about projects to clean the bath stone.

Then in the afternoon we hopped on a bus to see Stonehenge and a little village where Harry Potter stuff was filmed... I'd driven past Stonehenge before and wasn't too fussed about actually going in, but in the spirit of the day we all braved the freezing wind and walked around the rocks in a field, oohed and ahhed, and took some photos. Here you can see Katish, Katherine and Pam embracing the solemn atmosphere of the site.

In the evening we went to Sally Lunn's for dinner, because the guide book told us too. Lovely old place, with pretty good food.

And that was our first full day in Bath. Very full. We done a lot.
